This was just the beginning of a Holiday-season crusade to cut back on drunk driving accidents in the Las Vegas Valley.
Metro has long been devoted to curbing alcohol-related crashes, and since these crashes tend to spike around holidays such as Christmas, New Years, Halloween, and Thanksgiving, Metro will be setting up checkpoints accordingly, in order to prevent as many fatalities as possible.
Checkpoints are typically set up from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. This past Thanksgiving, nearly 2,000 vehicles passed through one such checkpoint at D.I. near Valley View. A total of 28 drivers were stopped, and seven were arrested. 18 Traffic Citations were issued.
The exact locations of upcoming DUI Checkpoints in Las Vegas is not announced to the public, but under all circumstances, it is in drivers’ best interest to drive sober, fully awake, and within the posted speed limits.
